The part no one talks about
Your body is guarding you.
The holding starts before you notice it. Drawing in at dinner, holding your breath for photos, choosing the outfit that hides you rather than the one you love. Your body learned this long before you had words for it.
It has also been doing its job. Holding in is what a body does when it doesn't feel safe to be seen, and yours has been guarding the one place you learned to criticise most.
That's why pushing harder never moved it. You can't talk a guard down with willpower. It stands down when it feels safe, and getting there asks for a different kind of work.
"In ten years of working with women around food and body, I've never met one who needed more control. Every one of them needed more connection."
Alva Roos · Food scientist & somatic coach
You'll recognize this
Why it keeps coming back
Food becomes the place where you finally let go.
Then your belly becomes the evidence that you did.
You hold it together
“Stay in control.”
You monitor your food, your body, your stomach.
Food becomes the release
“I just want to let go.”
Food gives you relief, pleasure and a break from holding everything in.
Then shame hits
“Look what I did.”
Your belly feels fuller. Suddenly, it becomes proof that you lost control.
So you hide it
“Tomorrow I'll do better.”
You pull your stomach in, cover it, tighten up, and start controlling again.
The loop
The belly becomes the place where the whole cycle shows up.
Where the loop breaks
01
Step 1 of 3Name it
See the holding happen in the moment it happens. Naming it is what makes changing it possible.
02
Step 2 of 3Understand it
Learn what your body has been protecting you from, whether that's being looked at, commented on or judged. That's what lets it stand down.
03
Step 3 of 3Release it
Breathe into the place you've been holding and feel it soften, then keep practising until soft is what your body does by default.
That's the whole method: eleven lessons, in this order.
Try it now
Let's do an experiment.
It takes about a minute, and you don't need anything except your own breath. Do it as you read.
Push your belly out
Sit somewhere you can relax, or lie down. Now push your belly out as far as it will go, and let it stay there. It will probably feel strange, even a little exposed.
Breathe into it
Take one slow breath and send it all the way down into your belly. Let your belly rise and fall with it. Your hands can rest there if you like.
Let it come back and notice
Stop pushing now, and watch what happens as your belly returns. Does it feel safe resting there, or does something in you want to suck it in?
If something pulled it back in, you just met the reflex this course works with. Learning to let your belly rest where it is, without bracing or fixing it, is the repatterning I want to invite you into.
Alva Roos · Food scientist & somatic coach
Nothing to get right here. Noticing the reflex is the practice — the softening comes with it.

Before
After
Holding your stomach in without thinking
→Resting your hands there with softness
Feeling embarrassed when your belly expands after a meal
→Knowing that expansion is your body doing its job
Ignoring hunger until it becomes urgency
→Noticing what your belly is saying before it has to shout
Treating your stomach like a problem to solve
→Treating your belly like somewhere worth returning to
Looking at your stomach with frustration
→Looking at it with something closer to peace
Your belly doesn't need to be fixed.
It needs to feel safe enough to be heard.
What women say
Told in their own words.
I used to leave restaurants early because of how bloated and ashamed I felt. After the Belly Repair Intensive I sat through a full dinner with friends and genuinely forgot to hold myself in. That had never happened before.
Sara, 34
Teacher, Stockholm
I didn't realise how much tension I was carrying in my belly until I finally stopped trying to control it. The somatic practices felt strange at first — then one morning I just… breathed into my stomach and cried.
Mia, 28
Designer, London
I've done therapy for years and this touched something different. It isn't talking. It's the body. I now eat without immediately scanning how I look. That's everything.

ALVA ROOS
Food scientist · Somatic coach
Alva created the Belly Repair Intensive for the women she kept meeting in her practice: capable, tired, and quietly convinced that something was wrong with their stomach. More than 200 of them have worked through it since.
Her framework draws on nervous system education, somatic movement and a decade of work with women around food, body image and emotional eating. It started closer to home.
For years she held her stomach in at every dinner, every holiday, every situation that felt like a test. What finally changed it was the one thing nobody had offered her: slowing down long enough to listen to what her belly was holding.
"I built this course because I needed it first. The belly was the last place I learned to soften — and softening it changed everything."

Questions
Before you decide.
Because it works on the holding itself, not on your willpower. Diets and plans ask you to manage your body from the outside. These lessons help your nervous system stop holding in, which is the part nothing else has reached.
Ready to stop fighting?
Your belly doesn't need to be fixed. It needs to feel safe enough to be heard.
You can spend another year holding it in, avoiding the mirror, negotiating with every outfit. Or you can do the one thing you've never actually tried: stop fighting, and start listening.
